I led the visual design for the Wellness Hub website, creating a cohesive brand system and design language that makes health information accessible and engaging for individuals outside of academia. From the initial visual explorations to final UI implementation, I developed logos, illustrations, and layouts that work together to guide patients through complex topics regarding Covid-19 research and vaccines.

OBJECTIVE

Make the Covid-19 Long Term Care study accessible to individuals outside of academia.

Website Design | Layout

Through multiple design iterations, I refined the website’s layout and visual hierarchy to prioritize user needs and accessibility. Each iteration addressed feedback from hospital research staff and the design team to develop the design from initial concepts to a polished, accessible interface. The final design system includes reusable components with that ensure consistency across all pages while allowing flexibility for different content types.

Featured Sections

• IPAC+: For medical professionals outside academia (ex. Nurses)

• Care+: For Long Term Care residents and their caretakers (potentially individuals from 20-70 yrs old)

• Vaccine+: Information regarding vaccines and research

• Resource Library: Central page with all featured resources from each section organized chronologically with filtering

Initial Explorations:

Potential Challenges

• Designing for diverse user groups: from healthcare professionals to senior residents, each with distinct needs and digital literacy levels

• Balancing visual distinction: across sections while maintaining a cohesive brand experience

• Ensuring intuitive navigation: so users could quickly identify relevant resources and understand section purposes

• Working within WordPress technical limitations

Challenges

• Accessibility

• Difficulty levels accessing resources

• Clarity

Sub-Category treatments

Subcategory pages held the site’s core content, making clear orientation essential. Developed visual anchors such as section-specific banners and colour-coded library modules to help users maintain context while navigating dense information.

Branding| Layout

Working within the Knowledge Translation Department’s existing colour palette, I designed a flexible logo system for the Wellness Hub and its sub-sections (Vaccine+, Care+, etc.). Each logo needed to feel distinct while maintaining visual consistency across the platform. The logos and visual systems were to be used across all web, print and video resources.

Logo Explorations

Initial Explorations for the main website. The aim was to connect it to the different divisions within the hub through a cohesive visual style and symbols.

Logo Finals

All versions maintain a ribbon-like motif and use similar colours that is repeated throughout the website. Any colours that are central to the logo, such as green for care+ became their identifying colour on the website and how you can identify care plus articles.

CARE+ Resource Library

All CARE+ resources use a green stripe to indicate the topic or

intended audience

Sample Repository/General Resource Library

Each category uses its own colour to differentiate the intended audience and topics it will be regarding. In this image, green is Care+, Grey is Vaccine+ etc.
